10. I had the name of this city stuck in my head for years, not knowing why. I was afraid to look it up because I didn't want it to be just a figment of my imagination. Imagine if I had looked up Tenochtitlan and it wasn't even a real word

11. The Aztecs also murdered (scholars prefer the softer term "sacrificed") hundreds of thousands of Children, Women, and Men throughout their empire over many decades. They also practiced ritual cannibalism. So, yes, in this sense they were "Amazing".

    This is not all they were, but they were absolutely brutal and savage by our standards, as well as by the standards of the Spanish conquistadores themselves.

    The first thing Cortes did when he arrived at Tenochitlan was force Montezuma II to stop this brutal practice. It was a point of contention.

    Question: How many Native Americans were SAVED by the arrival of Cortez? Native Americans that would have otherwise been murdered?

    Estimates are that around 80,000 were murdered annually throughout the Aztec empire. Let's assume the Aztecs would have lasted another century. That would be 8,000,000 people NOT murdered.

22. I have been a teacher for 25 years and I have studied history most of my life. One of the first real books I ever read was a forest of kings and I have NEVER heard ANYONE say these were just small "unsophisticated " tribes living in the jungle. Why do you just make crap up?! Just to cause trouble? I love how every video talks about the market. They almost always leave out the slaves being sold there. Slave Children were kept there in cages to be sold as sacrifices and to be eaten! They conquered other peoples, they stole their people and resources. They committed human sacrifice on an industrial scale! They wore the skin of human sacrifices. They fed the animals in that zoo human flesh. The many different ways they performed human sacrifice is insane! This doesn't sound like a tragedy we lost this place. It sounds like we were lucky!
